Mazda have said their goal is to increase the cars real world performance by 20%. This could mean a number of things and does not necessarily gift the little car a 20% power hike. Mazda have not quoted figures but they are currently working on the engine so we can expect some improvements over the standard cars 76kW and 137Nm outputs.

Mazda at 2008 Melbourne Motor Show: Mazda's Baby Car Gets An Extreme Makeover
Mazda has today unveiled the fourth in its iconic series of extreme makeovers, a rally-ready Mazda2 Extreme, at the 2008 Melbourne Motor Show.
The Mazda2 Extreme was borne of a simple idea: Take one of Australia's most popular lightweight hatchbacks with a proven pedigree as the driver's choice, add a sizeable dose of adrenalin, pump it full of steroids and ... watch out.
The Mazda2 Extreme is the fourth in a stellar line of extreme Mazdas produced by Mazda Motorsport in Australia. It follows in the tyre tracks of the Mazda RX-8 (2004), the original Mazda2 Extreme (2005) and the Mazda3 MPS (2007).
The second-generation Mazda2 has been a runaway success for Mazda since its launch in September 2007, with more than 7,000 sales in just six full months. The Mazda2 Extreme builds on the unchallenged driver's car reputation of this popular five-door hatchback, taking it to a new level of exhilaration.
The engine is still under development however Mazda Motorsport's goal is to increase the car's real world performance by at least 20 percent. A three-inch sports exhaust helps airflow from the engine and will ensure the Mazda2 Extreme has the raucous soundtrack it deserves. The standard car's five-speed manual transmission is unchanged, and, like the production version it is based on, drive is delivered to the ground through the front wheels.
The car's suspension system has been redesigned by Australian suspension tuning expert, Murray Coote, renowned for his work on some of the world's leading rally and racing cars.
Coote configured a suspension package that tailors the Mazda2's competent on-road skills for the dirt-road intensity of rally competition. Sports-tuned springs and shock absorbers team with purpose-built 15-inch Bridgestone Potenza rally tyres and lightweight Compomotive Motorsport alloy wheels.
The Mazda2 Extreme stands out visually with a striking blue, white and yellow paint scheme that epitomises Mazda's Zoom-Zoom DNA. Black flared wheel arches give the car a more aggressive stance, while four-spot Hella rally lights ensure this is one machine that can see in the dark.
The Mazda2 Extreme's cabin has been prepared for battle; a full PCD roll cage has been installed and the standard Mazda2 front seats replaced with Italian Sabelt race seats each equipped with five-point safety harness. A Momo steering wheel, hydraulic handbrake, fire extinguisher and medical kit complete the internal makeover.
In its current form the Mazda2 Extreme retains its standard braking system. This includes antilock brakes with emergency brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution.
The end result is a Mazda2 like no other; a Mazda2 Extreme ready to rally.
"This was a surprisingly challenging Extreme car to do," said Mazda Motorsport chief Allan Horsley. "Starting with such an agile car really put the pressure on when it came to improving its real-world abilities."
"I think the result was well worth the effort. This Mazda2 Extreme sits proudly alongside our other Extreme cars like the RX-8 and Mazda3 MPS."

Canadian Grand Prix to Receive Facelift

The Canadian Grand Prix will stand alone as North America’s only stop for Formula 1 in 2008. Along with this unique status and in the face of newly built, ultra-modern facilities in places like Shanghai and Bahrain, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve could stand for a facelift.
Fans and the media have been alluding to this for years, and apparently, the provincial government in Quebec will now oblige them. PaddockTalk.com noted that according to German news agency SID, a “$4.5 million modernization will come courtesy of the city (of Montreal) and the Quebec province, involving a new media centre and updated pit lane and paddock.”
Of course, the good folks at PaddockTalk.com remind us that the impetus for the influx of cash most likely came from F1’s voice-from-above, Bernie Ecclestone. Over a year ago, Mr. Ecclestone had mused that Montreal should update its facility or risk losing the Canadian Grand Prix.

A freshening of the facilities at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve would greatly benefit this incredibly popular event on the F1 calendar, which is just a few subway stops from the heart of downtown Montreal on Ile-Notre Dame। The Canadian Grand Prix is set to take place June 6-8 this year.

Two Iconic Holdens Take to the Track at Clipsal 500

This year marks GM Holden’s 60th anniversary of its first ever car, the 48-215, which was built at Fisherman’s Bend, Melbourne Australia. The 48 stands for the year the car was first produced and the 215 refers to its 6 cylinder engine’s capacity at 2.15 litres, however, the car was more commonly known as the FX Holden. This vehicle was later upgraded and was called the FJ, and it is this vehicle that the EFIJY concept car takes its inspiration from।

Both vehicles will take to the track, weather permitting on Sunday the 24th of February for a display lap.

Two Iconic Holden’s Take to the Track at Clipsal 500
In a unique motoring event, two of Holden’s most distinctive cars will take to the track in Adelaide’s eastern parklands during this week’s Clipsal 500 event.
Holden’s Number 1 car, the first 48-215 will be joined by world renowned Holden concept car, the EFIJY, for a unique lap of the circuit on Sunday 24th February at 1.15pm.
The track time will herald an exciting year of celebrations for GM Holden, which is marking the 60th anniversary of Australia’s own car – the Holden 48-215. On 29th November 1948, the first Australian mass produced car was born at GM Holden’s vehicle assembly plant in Fishermans Bend, Victoria. Today, Holden’s best selling car, the Commodore is assembled in Elizabeth, South Australia and continues the company’s best selling success, having been Australia’s favourite car for the past 12 years.
GM Holden’s incoming Chairman and Managing Director, Mark Reuss, will be behind the wheel of the 48-215 on its unique lap around the Clipsal circuit while GM Holden Chief Designer, Richard Ferlazzo will pilot the EFIJY.
Richard Ferlazzo says: “This is the first time the EFIJY has been driven in public in Australia so it is a huge thrill for me and where better to give it a first drive than at one of the greatest street circuits in the world?
“The 48-215 holds a special place in the hearts of many Australians and created the passion for the Holden brand that we know today. To partner Holden’s most iconic car in its birthday year is the chance of a lifetime.”
“I encourage all Holden fans, young and old to join us trackside to witness this unique event.”
A contemporary reincarnation of the 1953 Holden FJ sedan, the EFIJY concept car has been winning accolades around the world and recently returned from an international tour which included an appearance at the Woodward Cruise in the United States and headlining the Dubai Motor Show. Its creation was a boyhood dream come true for Richard.
“When making the EFIJY dream a reality, one thing that was front of mind was that EFIJY would be a fully functioning vehicle rather than just a show pony. While its design gives the impression of movement, it’s when it’s on the road that EFIJY really comes to life.”
The Holden Number 1 car and EFIJY will be trucked directly to Clipsal on Sunday 24th February to drive the circuit (weather permitting) and will depart immediately after the historic lap to be displayed at the National Motor Museum, Birdwood until Easter.

About the Holden Number 1 car
The Number 1 car was restored by GM Holden’s engineers for its 50th anniversary in 1998. The car was originally launched by Prime Minister Ben Chifley in November 1948 when he famously uttered the words “She’s a Beauty.”
With a 2.5 litre engine and three speed manual gearbox, over 120,000 of the 48-215 (commonly known as the FX) were sold during its lifetime. The 48-215 sedan had a launch price of $1466 and was later available as a business sedan and utility.
About EFIJY
EFIJY is a radical custom coupe shape boasting V8 Supercar power under the bonnet, Chevrolet Corvette underbody and state-of-the-art automotive technology throughout. The ‘Soprano Purple’ paintwork highlights its curvaceous 5.2-metre body, reinterpreting the classic design cues of the iconic 1953 FJ Holden.
The technology matches the larger-than-life design cues with a 480-kilowatt, supercharged six-litre V8 engine, air-adjustable shock absorbers, touch control LCD screen and fan-cooled LED headlamps.
A long-term dream for Chief Designer Richard Ferlazzo, the EFIJY concept was developed as a collaboration with suppliers which reduced impact on the company’s heavy work schedule and ensured the highest possible quality result for the showcar.

2008 is a diamond year for GM Holden which will be recognising a number of key anniversaries during the year. These include the 60th anniversary of Australia’s Own Car – the 48-215, the 50th anniversary of the founding of Holden Vehicle Operations, Elizabeth, 30 years of the Commodore nameplate, 40 years since the introduction of Monaro and the General Motors centennial.

The 2008 Australia V8 Supercar series is revving up for a bumper year. Television viewers switched on in 2007 to watch these super sedans battle it out in the heat and dust in record numbers.
The V8 supercar series is etched forever into the minds of all Australian motorsport fans, and the series has been running for over 35 years now in some way shape or form. The classic Holden verses Ford battle is set to kick of its 2008 season at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide street circuit on 21st of February.
The enthralling combination of competitive drivers, passionate fans and 600+hp V8's is a recipe for some seriously close racing। Two types of vehicle compete in the series, both of which are home grown and designed Australian vehicles. The Ford Falcon is unique to Australia and has been made for over 40 years and can be had with a 4.0L I6, 4.0L I6 Turbo and 5.4L V8 engines. The Holden Commodore is sold in limited numbers in the Middle East, North America and the UK under various GM brands and can be equipped with a 3.6L V6 to an enormous 6.0L V8. However, both Ford and Holden race cars ditch the production units for bespoke 5.0L pushrod V8's and live axle rear suspension to keep the racing as close as possible. There will be plenty of scrapes, dents and broken wing mirrors to look forward to in a few weeks.

Record 22 million Australians tune into V8 Supercar Championship Series

V8 Supercars Australia is looking to build on the record 22 million television viewers of 2007 - up from 17.5 million on the previous season - during this year’s Championship Series.
Last year the sport was watched by just on 22 million (Source: Mitchells) people across Australia as the first year return to Network Seven rocketed the sport to new heights. It was a 25 per cent hike in total viewers across Australian metropolitan and regional markets.
“The move to Network Seven and their all-network commitment to the sport could not have had a more successful first year back,” V8 Supercars Australia Chairman Tony Cochrane said.
“The partnership is getting stronger and stronger as Network Seven discovers the huge fan base of our sport which spreads from Broome to Brisbane and Darwin to the Derwent.
“Compare this to the A League that was recently applauded for having a 23 per cent increase to 2.8 million viewers and it offers you a real perspective on what Australians are watching.”
Crowds in 2007 were also up by around 1.5 per cent up on comparison with the previous year.
“V8 Supercars can no longer be considered as a second class citizen in the Australia sporting arena,” Mr Cochrane said.
“It also is reflected in our international television numbers which are receiving the same phenomenal growth.”
The 2008 season launch will take place at Melbourne’s Peninsula function centre at Docklands tomorrow evening to invited guests including Australia’s leading businessmen, corporate guests, celebrities, Seven personalities, V8 Supercar drivers and teams.
XXXX GOLD will be the beer on tap at all twelve Australian V8 Supercar events and will be actively involved in the atmosphere of the V8 Supercar Championship Series, including the XXXX Angels.
Lion Nathan joins an increasingly large stable of sponsors who have recognised V8 Supercars as an outstanding investment opportunity in the sporting landscape.
In 2008 a new street race will be held in Hamilton, New Zealand, to a sell-out crowd of 150,000. The amazing reception in New Zealand has guaranteed the event a record crowd for the country, once again.
The build-up to the inaugural Townsville street race in 2009 will also continue. Townsville is also shaping up as an event that will be one of the biggest in Australia.
On the racing front 2007 Champion Garth Tander has switched to the powerful Holden Racing Team, Russell Ingall to the Paul Morris Supercheap Auto outfit and Todd Kelly to Jack Daniel’s Racing.
Albury-based Team BOC has swapped camps from Ford to Holden and found a new driver in Cameron McConville while the HSV Dealer team replaced Garth Tander with Paul Dumbrell. And Stone Brothers Racing recruited another Kiwi Shane Van Gisbergen to partner James Courtney.
And the top three from last year’s Fujitsu (development) Series, Tony D’Alberto, Michael Caruso and Kiwi Kayne Scott, all have secured drives in the Championship as reward for their great form of 2007.
The L&H 500 at Phillip Island is a new addition to the calendar as the lead into the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at Bathurst with the Sandown track now hosting a sprint round of the Series in June.
Sydney’s grand old lady Oran Park will host this year’s grand final in its final year of distinguished service to Australian motorsport before it closes its doors in 2009.
The Clipsal 500 in Adelaide begins the year as usual from February 21 to 24 followed by Eastern Creek in Sydney. One week after Eastern Creek is the non-Championship Australian Grand Prix.
V8 Supercars return to the Australian Grand Prix for the Manufacturer’s Challenge which pits Holden and Ford against each other in a combined points score format।

Clipsal 500 V8 Supercar Round Up

The opening round of the exhilarating Australian V8 Supercar series, the Clipsal 500, has gone to speedy Ford driver Jamie Whincup.
Whincup wrestled his 600+hp Ford Falcon around the streets of Adelaide to come out on top and avoided much of the weekend’s carnage that was behind him. Only nineteen of the twenty eight starters managed to cross the finish line and the race had to be restarted seven times due to the various altercations throughout the day.
Second position was filled by Gary Rogers Motorsport’s Lee Holdsworth in his V8 Holden Commodore। Cameron McConville’s Team WOW Holden came in a solid third which was his first podium finish since the 2004 season. It was made even more impressive by the fact that McConville started the final heat from last position.

The Clipsal 500 is split into two 250km races, one of which is run on the Saturday and the other on the Sunday. Whincup dominated both events being fastest in practice and qualifying and more importantly leading both races to the chequered flag.
It all bodes well for the next thunderous round of the Australian V8 Supercar series which will be held at Eastern Creek Raceway in Sydney on the 7th to the 9th of March.

Le Mans 24 Hours Entry List Announced

The organisers of the Le Mans 24 Hours (or 24 Hours of Le Mans) race have released the entry list for this year, which holds out to 55 cars from numerous companies, and 20 LMP1 cars to take the start.
As usual, many will unquestionably call for Audi’s victory in the LMP1 category, but it's not so easy for the Ingolstadt-based company this time around. With Peugeot adding a new car and F1 drivers to its team, and Pescarlo waiting to give a clear out fight; Audi will face some tough competitions on all sides.
The LMP2 category alternatively has its highlight with Porsche RS Spyder making its first appearance at Le Mans and many others bringing in their outstanding new cars. In the GT1 category, Aston Martin and Corvette will go head to head again, with Interprogressbank Spartak Racing lurking over their backs with the only Lamborghini in the race. As for the GT2, Porsche and Ferrari will compete with their 911 GT3-RSR’s and F430 GT’s respectively, alongside two Spykers.

Citroen Reveals C2 R2 MAX

The C2-R2 MAX fits in between the C2 Super 1600 and C2-R2, offering a performance boost at a more affordable price for rallyists. Changes over the C2-R2 include a 190 horsepower 1599cc engine and brakes, a revised suspension with a wider track and an adjustable rear, and hydraulic steering. Citroen says the upgrades will enable the car to dominate its class as well as challenging cars from higher classes.

Citroe?n has today revealed the new Citroe?n C2-R2 MAX. The car is aimed at motorsport
customers, and will be sold in kit form by Citroe?n Sport’s customer division. Before taking
to the world’s special stages, Simon Jean-Joseph and Se?bastien Ogier launched the all-new
C2-R2 MAX at Satory’s Val d’Or circuit.
The new car, which will be homologated by the FIA on the 1st March 2008, was designed to the new
FIA ‘Group R’ regulations. Jean-Franc?ois Lie?ne?re?, Citroe?n Sport’s customer competition manager,
explained: « We felt that it was necessary to expand the range of our competition cars, as we saw a
gap between our two best-selling C2 rally variants: the C2 Super 1600 and the C2-R2. This new
‘intermediate’ car can be run to a budget, but it also has more spirited performance than the C2-R2.
The C2-R2 MAX appeals both to the heart and to the head, and it offers the best compromise between
performance, price and driving pleasure available on the market today. »
The modifications over the standard C2-R2 are chiefly to the engine, which gets an increase in power,
more sophisticated suspension, stronger brakes, adjustable rear suspension, and a hydraulic steering
rack. « From the outside, the car looks largely the same, » commented Alexis Avril, Citroe?n Sport’s
customer competition technical manager. « The front and rear track are just a little bit wider. The main
changes are under the bonnet, with a 1599cc engine that puts out 190 horsepower. » Last year, the
C2-R2 proved its performance on the FIA Junior Championship as well as many different European
national championships. Thanks to this latest evolution, drivers of the C2-R2 MAX will be able to fight
for R2 victory and above all they will be able to rival cars from the class above.
Citroe?n united two extremely talented drivers to stage this demonstration: Simon Jean-Joseph, 2007
European Rally Champion with a Citroe?n C2 Super 1600, and Se?bastien Ogier – a member of the
prestigious Equipe de France FFSA (backed by the French national motorsport federation) and
Echappement magazine’s young driver of the year. Citroe?n Sport director Olivier Quesnel said: « Simon
has a great deal of experience in rallying and thanks to his exceptional talent he will be a fantastic
ambassador for the company and for the C2-R2 MAX all over Europe this year. As for Se?bastien Ogier,
he will get the chance to make his debut on the FIA Junior World Rally Championship in an Equipe de
France FFSA-backed Citroe?n C2 Super 1600 – which has been made possible through a joint effort from
Citroe?n Sport and the French Federation. His six-rally programme will start in Mexico at the end of the
month. »
Citroe?n will therefore be present on the FIA Junior World Rally Championship once more, and it will
also reprise the ‘C2 Junior Experience’. « After the promising results we obtained last year, we’re
delighted to continue the scheme in 2008, » added Olivier Quesnel. « We already have six competitors
signed up: four in a C2 Super 1600 and two in a C2-R2. It’s worth remembering that if the winner of
the 2008 Junior World Rally Championship drives a Citroe?n C2, he will earn two rallies with a WRC car
in 2009. For reasons of fairness, Se?bastien Ogier – who is competing on the FIA Junior World
Championship – will not take part in the C2 Junior Experience. Citroe?n will also be present on several
European national championships this year through some of its subsidiaries, distributors and
customers. »

Great Race 2008 Prepares Its Engines to Start




The second, named after the winner of the first race, will allow classic vehicles (at least 25 years old) to face the 30,149 km challenge. They will surely find better conditions this time (since there were hardly any roads back in 1908), but all care is necessary to avoid the same fate half of the first competitors had. Of the 6 teams that entered the Greatest Race in 1908, only 3 managed to finish it.

The route for the Great Race 2008 has been recently defined. The racers will cross 13 countries (United States, Canada, Peoples Republic of China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland and France, in this order) and stop in more than 50 cities.

2008 NEW YORK TO PARIS GREAT RACE ROUTE IS SET
NEW YORK The worldwide route for the 2008 Great Race from New York to Paris has been officially set, according to Bill Ewing, chief executive for Great Race Sports, the event organizers.
Its been fun putting the pieces together to make The Great Race both historical and relevant, said Ewing. A special thanks must go to our partners, government officials and especially our staff who worked tirelessly and traveled innumerable miles to create a route that I am sure will make for a great event this summer.
The 2008 route is a daunting automotive challenge, though certainly not as fearful as that planned a century earlier for the original Great Race. This time, it has not been suggested that the cars should be driven across the frozen Bering Strait from Alaska to Russia, as the 1908 organizers originally planned.
The Great Race 2008 will begin in New York City and circumnavigate the globe, passing through 13 countries before arriving in Paris 65 days later 104 less than the winner needed in 1908. The total distance is 18,738 miles (30,149 km), including 13,106 miles (21,087 km) on land and about 5,632 miles (9,062 km) in a flight from Vancouver to Shanghai. The race consists of four stages, each of which is an individual event that teams can also enter: Great Race North America, Great Race China, Central Asia / Eastern Europe and Great Race Europe.
I am very proud what our team did in putting together this route, which represents a diverse set of challenges and opportunities. said Ewing. From the historically significant route through upper New York State to a route across Canada that is both challenging and scenic, our teams fly half way around the world to a whole new set of experiences. We have spent a great deal of time organizing the final three legs from Shanghai to Paris, creating a route that combines an adventure, similar to what the teams experienced in 1908 with the amenities and accommodations commensurate with a first class operation. I am sure it will be the ultimate adventure.
After leaving New York City, the teams will turn northward and travel a route somewhat similar to the one in 1908, stopping first at President Franklin Delano Roosevelts historic home at Hyde Park for lunch, then overnight in Albany, the State Capital. Day two includes a stop in Syracuse and then Buffalo, home to the winning driver in 1908, George Schuster and the E.R. Thomas Motor Company, manufacturer of the winning car.
From Buffalo, Great Race North America, the first stage of the New York to Paris Great Race, will deviate from the 1908 route and follow a scenic, yet demanding course through southern Canada, stopping first in Toronto and then Ottawa, the nations capital. After an overnight stay in Ottawa, the race will travel along Lake Superior, then through the provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The Great Race will cross the Canadian Rockies near Banff, driving past Lake Louis and Glacier National Park. The finish is in the beautiful city of Vancouver, British Columbia last stop before China.
A Canadian route creates a more international event and provides a new driving adventure for our participants, said Ewing. For 25 years, the Great Race has traveled throughout the United States and has stopped at more than 900 North American communities. Canada provides new ground and an adventure more in the spirit of 1908.
In Vancouver, the cars traveling around the world will then be loaded on a pair of jets for the flight to Shanghai, Peoples Republic of China, to begin the longest and most challenging portion of the trip from Shanghai to Paris a total distance of 8,716 miles (12,874 km).
Great Race Sports is working with two companies with extensive experience in travel through Asia and Europe to coordinate this part of the race. Além International and the MIR Corporation will play an important role in managing the route, security, hotels and travel for the next 43 days.
This is in the sweet spot for our partners and will help make the Great Race a fun, safe and memorable experience, said Ewing. Além International has managed the Olympic Torch Run for many years and will manage our logistics and security for the entire route, and will coordinate travel through Europe. The MIR Corporation has organized tours through China, Kazakhstan and Russia for more than 2 decades and will help us there. Plus, we have been on the ground twice, seeing the roads, hotels and writing a unique and challenging course. Everyone involved has the skills necessary to bring this all together.
From Shanghai, the teams will head south and then west through some of the oldest and most fascinating cities in the world. The roads have been carefully selected and offer a wide variety of driving experiences, from brand new superhighways to picturesque country roads through parts of China rarely scene by westerners. Teams will travel within sight of the Great Wall and follow the Great Silk Road past some of the oldest and most fascinating cities in the world.
I was most impressed by the roads in China, said Wayne Stanfield, chief of operations for Great Race Sports, Inc, who has traveled the route in anticipation of the race. The Expressways are world-class, and even the smallest side roads provide spectacular driving. Plus the warmth and friendliness of the Chinese people will leave an indelible memory on all of the participants.
Great Race China finishes in Urumqi in Western China. Next is the longest and most challenging part of the trip, a 4,800-mile journey across central Asia from Urumqi to Berlin, Germany. The Great Race will spend seven days in Kazakhstan including a day off in Almaty, the largest city in Central Asias richest country. Stops in Kazakhstan also include Balkhash, Karaghanda, Astana, and Petropavlovsk before entering Russia.
Participants will then travel through Russia for eleven days on a route that will initially take them across the steps of lowland Russia and then over the Ural Mountains to Ekaterinburg, Russias fifth largest city and one of its most historic. Stops in Kazan and Nizhny Novgorod precede the drive into Moscow and Red Square. From there, the route features a scenic twoday drive through Eastern Europe, stopping in Daugavpils, Latvia, Vilnius, Lithuania, and Warsaw, Poland before entering Berlin.
The final stage is Great Race Europe, a 1057-mile push through five countries, Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland and France. The Great Race will finish in Paris, France on Aug. 2, 2008, at the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Some of the roads between Berlin and Paris notably those around Prague and St. Anton, a lunch stop are considered among the most scenic in the world.
We are lucky to have the centennial as an excuse to make this run, said Ewing. But you shouldnt need one. Its such an exciting challenge and after all, how many people get the opportunity to drive all the way around the world? That itself is reason enough.

Christie’s, the prestige London based auction house will handle the sale. All proceeds are in aid of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and will help fund social sports projects for children and young people all around the world. Laureus Sport for Good Foundation is a by product of the annual Laureus World Sports Awards in which Daimler AG helped found some nine years ago.
The “Laureus AMG Mercedes C-Class” comes with some serious racing heritage as it is a past DTM round winner in the hands of Gary Paffett. As a bonus to a prospective collector, the race cars bonnet has been signed by a number of famous ex-sports stars such as tennis champ Boris Becker, and former F1 ace Niki Lauda.
The closing date for the Auction is the 4th of April, 2008.

Laureus Sport for Good Foundation - Exclusive sale: Mercedes-Benz auctions AMG Mercedes DTM C-Class for social projects
For the first time ever, Mercedes-Benz is set to auction one of its original racing cars from the DTM (German Touring Car Championships), in aid of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. The exclusive auction is to be handled by the renowned auction house Christie’s, and the proceeds will help fund social sports projects for children and young people. The move sees Daimler AG, a founding partner of the Laureus World Sports Awards, reinforce its social commitment to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. The auction will close on Friday, April 4, 2008.
“Bid for Good” is the motto of a unique auction in which, for the first time ever, interested parties are being invited to bid for a Mercedes-Benz racing car used in the DTM series. Gary Paffett won the DTM race in Oschersleben last year in this “Laureus AMG Mercedes C-Class”. The bonnet of the unique race car is also adorned with the signatures of various celebrities - including Boris Becker, Franziska van Almsick and Niki Lauda. Proceeds from the auction, which is being run by Christie’s in London, will go to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, co-founded by Daimler AG.
“We are delighted that we will be able to reinforce our activities for socially disadvantaged children and youngsters with this auction,” stated Dr Olaf Göttgens, Vice President Brand Communications Mercedes-Benz Cars. “The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation helps them to discover a new and more positive outlook on life through sport.” Laureus is involved in over 50 projects worldwide, particularly in projects aimed at tackling poverty, violence, drug abuse, discrimination and AIDS.

New Toyota Sprint Series (UK)

Toyota has some serious pedigree in motorsport, particularly in World Rally Championship racing। The rally Celica’s and Corolla’s of the 80’s and 90’s were race vehicles based of street production models such as the Celica GT4’s, so expect to see some of these machines competing. TOYOTA BACKS NEW SPRINT SERIES
What’s the hottest prospect on a race track: a road-spec’ 21st century MR2 Roadster or a fully-tuned and kitted 1990s-vintage Supra? The speed and handling potential of contemporary and classic Toyota models will be put to the test when they go head to head in a new motor sport challenge, the Toyota Sprint Series 2008.
Toyota (GB) PLC has signed up as leading sponsor of the series, designed to give Toyota enthusiasts an exciting and affordable first step into motor sport. A provisional calendar of five events will get under way in March, open to experienced, intermediate and novice drivers.
Honours will be fought for in up to 10 classes, covering the complete spectrum of performance, from diesels and sub-1600cc cars to fully modified and tuned machines. Throughout the season driver points will be awarded in each class, so any driver has the potential to become overall champion. The basic principle of a sprint is for each competitor to complete a timed run, rather than to qualify and race side by side as in other forms of circuit motor sport.
The series is the brainchild of Barry Cross and Adrian Smith, who share a passion for Toyota cars and motor sport. They have joined forces with Javelin Trackdays to design and launch the competition, encouraged by the success of a one-off event in October. They are hopeful tuning and aftermarket companies will be keen to support the championship to show what they can offer Toyota owners, and that the open nature of the series will encourage a healthy entry list.
“It’s our aim to create a great championship that will help further the tuning scene in the UK,” they said. “We have brought together a professional team that will provide enthusiasts with an exciting, enjoyable, friendly and affordable sporting experience.”

Adrian Zaugg Takes Australia A1 GP

Switzerland’s Neel Jani came second, almost 20 seconds later, while Great Brit Robbie Kerr wound up the podium. The Australian leg of the A1 GP race was a tough one, with extremely wet conditions dominating the scene.
Zaugg said afterwards: “I have to thank Humphrey my engineer and the whole team for that call. I could see I was able to go at a better pace than at least Robbie and Neel, so I thought we had a good chance. We stayed out and put in some good laps and then pitted and got out ahead. It was very very hard in these conditions. Each time I was trying to get a move or to pass someone but when you come so close the visibility gets so bad you can't see anything. It was just safer to wait until we got a chance for some clear laps and that's all we did. The track conditions stayed pretty consistent but there was maybe a little less rain right at the end.”
Although still quite a long way from F1, interest in the “world cup of motor racing” has grown over the past year after an initial slump. The next races take place between 22 and 24 February in the coastal city of Durban, South Africa, where the race is held on the streets ala Monaco.

A1 Team South Africa secured its second A1GP race win of the season in this afternoon's action-packed Feature race at Sydney's Eastern Creek Raceway, closing the gap to third-placed Switzerland in the championship standings. The weekend brought the championship battle even closer together with leaders New Zealand and France both heading to the next race in Durban, South Africa on 96 points.
Adrian Zaugg drove a sensational race in treacherous conditions as the heavy rain continued to pour down, to cross the line almost 20 seconds ahead of Switzerland's Neel Jani in second. The result is a huge boost for the South African team as it gears up for its home event in three weeks time.
Great Britain's Robbie Kerr, who briefly fell back a place after making a good start from third on the grid alongside China in fourth, took the third and final podium position after a strong race in difficult conditions.
The on-track action began before the lights went out to signal the start of the 42-lap race with pole-sitter New Zealand's Jonny Reid grinding to a halt just after leaving the pits to form up on the grid. The marshals were not able to push start the stalled car uphill and as a result Black Beauty started from pit lane. Moments later Sprint race winner Loic Duval stalled the French car on the formation lap and was forced to start the race from the back of the grid, potentially putting both title rivals out of contention.
Brazil's Sergio Jimenez was on brilliant form this afternoon, racing from ninth on the grid to a solid fourth place, the nation's second best result of the season. The Brazilian team, who now lie ninth in the championship standings, was joined at Eastern Creek by 2002 FIFA World Cup winning Brazilian midfielder Juninho, who is currently playing for Sydney FC.
Having started from the back of the grid due to a clutch problem that caused him to stall, France's Loic Duval made steady progress and by lap 16 he had caught USA's Jonathan Summerton and Canada's Robert Wickens and the trio commenced a three-way fight for sixth place. In an ambitious move four laps later, Duval snuck down the inside of the American car, forcing Summerton to run off the track and ultimately ending his race.
The French team, still hampered by its clutch problem, received a drive through penalty for causing the avoidable collision and Duval's race was finally over when he failed to get the car going after his second compulsory pit stop on lap 31.
Home nation Australia's John Martin wowed the crowds as his impressive form continued, carving his way through the field from 14th to bring Jackaroo home in a superb fifth place, the nation's best ever result on home soil.
Germany's Michael Ammermüller just managed to fend off the Netherlands's Jeroen Bleekemolen across the line, the pair taking seventh and eighth place respectively. New Zealand's Jonny Reid, who started from pit lane and China's Congfu Cheng, who was hit with a drive through penalty for making a false start, took the final two point-scoring positions.
Just outside the points was India's Narain Karthikeyan who crossed the line in 11th position, closely followed by Pakistan's Adam Khan in 12th, who drove a solid race to secure the team's best result of the season.
Feature race winner South Africa's Adrian Zaugg praised his team's good tactical call in difficult conditions before the first round of pit stops:

Commenting on winning the Sydney Feature race ahead of his nation's home event in three weeks time, Zaugg said:
“The win gives you lots of confidence but each time it's a new race and a new day and I always give it my best, but definitely we have a great motivation coming to Durban.”
Second-placed Switzerland's Neel Jani, who benefited from his title rivals New Zealand and France starting from the back of the grid, said:
“I had a bad take off but the second part of my start was good. As the cars were rolling down I had to have my foot on the brake as I didn't want to have the same mistake I had at the last race when I was penalised for making a false start. It was still enough to be P1 into the first lap and I could just keep that position with more or less the same pace as the guys behind me. Then we came in on the first lap possible for the first pit stop. South Africa stayed out which was the better call but I think their pace certainly was pretty quick and it would have been hard to keep them behind us.”
“After the disappointment of Taupo where we didn't score any points, GBR had to get a good result and the podium is a nice way to do it. Unfortunately it wasn't two places higher, I'm sure I would have a bigger smile on my face if it was! The initial take off was good, but unfortunately as I ran over the start finish line where New Zealand would have been, the rear wheels just span up a little bit and we just lost traction from that point on. I just had to slow the car to regain traction and then try to accelerate again and by that point Brazil and South Africa had gone past. We had to get a good result here and it wasn't worth taking a big risk.”
New Zealand and France both leave Sydney with 96 championship points, but the Kiwis hold the title lead due to number of race wins. Switzerland lies just three points behind in third place ahead of South Africa in fourth on 76 points, as the series heads to Durban, South Africa for round seven on 22 - 24 February 2008.

Nissan GT-R GT500 Specs Released

Nissan will be entering their coveted Nissan GT-R in the Super GT motorsport series. The Japanese contest will feature the GT-R for the first time in five years, a gap filled by the Z.
To make this car a particular bad-ass in the Super GT, further weight reductions have been put in place. The GTR GT500 comes in at a lean 1100kg. The car’s center of gravity was lowered, with weight distribution optimized in all directions. This should significantly improve the handling and dynamics of the GT-R, according to Nissan.
Aerodynamics has been improved, as well as power output ant efficiency. The GT500 cars will see horsepower rise to 493, from around 450 on the stock car. These racers will also have a maximum torque of about 376 ft-lb.
Nissan will also be running racing schools before all March Cup races, so entrants can improve skills, and truly understand how this car was meant to be driven.

Nissan GT-R Super GT Specs Released

Nissan Motor Co. Ltd and Nissan Motorsports International Co., Ltd (NISMO) today announced their 2008 Global Motorsport Programmes.
Highlighting the company’s continued commitment to global motorsport, Nissan will enter the all-new GT-R into the premium Japanese motorsport series, SUPER GT.
1. SUPER GT
2008 marks the return of GT-R to racing, following the transition from the R34 model to the Z five years ago. Continuing from last year, Mr Kunihiko Kakimoto will be the General Manager for all Nissan related teams, and the NISMO Team Manager will be Mr Yoshitaka Iijima.
NISMO will give technical support and car development support to teams entering the NISSAN GT-R in SUPER GT. As a part of the Nissan team group, NISMO, HASEMI MOTORSPORT, TEAM IMPUL, and KONDO RACING will enter the GT500 class with a total of five NISSAN GT-Rs.
The 2008 NISSAN GT-R has been developed with the following areas of focus:
1. Reducing parts weight, lowering the centre of gravity and optimising weight distribution to improve handling and vehicle dynamics
2. Using the aerodynamics of the new NISSAN GT-R to decrease drag and increase down-force
3. Increased power and improved efficiency from the VK45 engine

A variety of motorsport programmes will be supported by Nissan
. March Cup Race/Nissan racing school
A total of 11 races run through regional championships (EAST Japan Series, WEST Japan Series, and NISSAN MARCH Champion Cup) using the March compact car. By standardising on-board data-loggers, entrants can steadily learn how to improve driving skills, as well as the physical excitement of a racing car.
In addition, Nissan will conduct racing schools at each circuit before races using a March Cup car to give circuit guidance and technical support. Since 2008, Nissan motorsport has added new classes and technology into the cars to help make this entry-level support even more accessible.

SUPER GT?GT300 class
Give technical support to privateer teams entering the Fairlady Z.
Super Taikyu series
Give technical support to privateer teams entering the ST-1 class or ST-3 class with a Fairlady Z.
Nissan Driver Development Programme (NDDP)/Formula Challenge Japan (FCJ)
To educate young drivers and support the Formula Challenge Japan, FCJ, series started in 2006. Nismo will be responsible for the maintenance of engines managed by the organisers. In addition, Nismo will select four drivers as scholarship drivers and give them support to enter the FCJ
Beginning 2007, to select a Nissan Advance Scholarship driver and send him to Formula Renault in England, where he will gain from the experience of racing in the competitive Formula Renault through one season.

China
To continue supporting Dongfeng Ghia Sports, a team entering the Nissan Tiida in the 1600cc class of the CCC (China Circuit Championship) touring car series since 2006
In China, the CCC is the most competitive national championship for racing cars based on standard production cars. Dongfeng Nissan has a continuing partnership with leading Chinese team, Ghia Sports. The Tiida campaigned by Ghia Sports was first in 2005 and second in 2006.
South Africa:
Nissan South Africa has won the South African Off-Road Championship series for the last seven consecutive years. This year they will enter the series with the Nissan Navara pick-up truck. In addition, Nissan will compete in the South African Production Car Championship with a 350Z (Fairlady Z).
